Cons: Lacks DVI port. Uneven backlighitng. Oversaturated colors.
Bottom Line: Part desktop display and part HDTV, the Samsung SyncMaster FX2490HD is an attractive 24-inch hybrid monitor that won't break the bank. Geared towards users with space constraints, it delivers good HD imagery and sharp text, but it has tinting and uniformity issues.

Verdict: Contrary to Samsung's claim, this is primarily an HD TV, rather than a monitor. With overblown colours and processing, images look far from natural. It's also far too expensive.
With its chrome-effect stand and dark maroon bezel, this 24in is a stunning looking monitor. It’s actually an LED HD TV, but Samsung says it’s primarily a computer monitor. This is odd, as all the features you’d expect from a modern TV are present: a well-designed remote control, a seven-day EPG and interactive services via the Red Button. There’s also picture-in-picture support, so you can keep an eye on the match while you work on a document using the PC input.

First announced at the end of August, Samsung's FX2490HD is a hybrid monitor/TV from a new generation. With predecessors like the T240HD and the P2370HD-both of which are exemplary products in this sector-this latest 24'', backlit monitor with a built-in TV tuner can't afford any mistakes.
As we've come to expect with monitors like this, there's a rich selection of inputs and outputs. Component, composite and SCART video inputs join VGA, two HDMI ports and the TV tuner at the back. For audio, the FX2490HD has a pair of 2 x 5 W speakers, along with both a line out and optical audio output.

Retailing for US $476 the SyncMaster FX2490HD is the second most expensive LCD screen here. For your cash you get a LCD that can also double as a TV screen however.
Studying the SyncMaster we couldn't help but notice its attractive looks and finish. The screen itself is finished in what Samsung calls ‘ToC Mystic Brown Cabinet' and the chrome four-prong stand just accentuates the overall look. The stand also provides a super stable base for the screen.
